{+++}So SEED gets stopped and runs 35% like a scalded cat today on over 35 million shares. That one is hard to take, so you know, I honor the same stops that I recommend that you honor. Sometimes I give something an extra 1% or so, but on this one I didn’t. I should have, the volume was almost non-existent on the downside, I should have known that. If you gave it some more space I applaud and congratulate you.
When this blog originally started the emphasis was on day trading or extremely short term stuff, maybe a day or two. I adjusted my approach to the market but I realize that you have to change with the market so there will be some changes in 2009. My stops have been too tight, some of you may not like that, but I think those of you that won’t, don’t care much anyway as you are professional traders and take my entries and then go from there. I did a review of so many names on our list over the past week and a fair amount of them went on to do big things after the stop. This leaves me frustrated and upset, I know you feel the same way. Please understand that my stops are in place to limit risk, not limit gains but I am a chart reader and that’s how I operate.. It has served me very well over the years, but when you are in a trend, whether up or down, stocks do need more wiggle room, I realize that. I will be changing some of the stops, but please feel free to use your own comfort level when you are measuring your own risk.
Regarding housekeeping, I have nailed down the audio alerts that will start in 09. I won’t use it everyday but when our stocks are in play, I can now record audio (faster than video or writing) and get it on the blog ASAP. It’s one way, just me talking, as none of us have time to chat when the markets are moving, but I will highlight action in our names as well as sectors that are hot or cold, basically what I am looking at. I hope it will help. Maybe we will do a chat stream next, but let’s see how this goes first. I run a hedge fund, actively managed, so chatting is almost impossible, but maybe I can create it for you guys and I will pop in from time to time. Please let me know your thoughts on this. If I don’t get your feedback then I have no way of knowing.
Stocktwits.tv starts again on Monday, I go live Tuesday’s and Thursday’s at noon. We will talk stocks and the market as well as levels for the indices, very timely stuff. The video and audio has been completely changed and should be a phenomenal improvement, at least that is what I am told. The guys worked hard on it. I spent time after the close setting it all up.
GT and PRGO are our shorts and you know our longs. Although not formally on the list for reasons I don’t know are AAPL and JPM warrants which you have seen me write about and tweet about and mention on Stocktwits.tv. I am taking them as well as VNO and IBM into the new year. I think that we will have a decent January at least up until earnings. If earnings blow it out to the upside, then the rally should continue, but my God, I don’t care how much of a Pollyanna you are, the market needs a rest, if earnings are flat to weak, we should sell off. We need to be ready for that.
